Soaking it in...

Thursday, September 1, 2011

It's our last few days of summer and we are packing in the fun.  I mean, it's almost like we think the San Diego Zoo is going to disappear from the surface of the Earth once school starts.  Because really, who goes there THREE times in just 5 days?  Ummm, that would be us.

Notice all the different shirts the boys are wearing in these pictures, and you'll see... I'm not kidding.  They almost made a cage for us so we could just stay the night in the Zoo.
 {Jake loving on a mammoth tusk}

 {Playing in the Children's Zoo}

 {Sam and Nani being Zoo Keepers}

 {Jake being silly at the mammoth statue}

 {Watching the "Chi-E-na afro bats"... Boys, do not try this at home!}

 {A hideous pic of me, but Sam and Jake look cute... Luke was crying.  Oh, and stilt walkers!}

 {Probably my favorite picture of the whole summer... Jake feeding the giraffes}

 {Sam on the mammoths... they love all the animals you can climb on}

 {Sam and Papa on the "sky buckets" with Jake, whose head is hiding}

Today we took a break from the Zoo and headed to Sea World instead.  It was a gorgeous day, no crowds, and we even got to pet two baby kangaroos... don't ask me why there are kangaroos at Sea World.  I have no idea why, but they are so, so cute!

{Luke was sleeping... someday I'll get a good picture of me with ALL three boys at once!}

 {Jake LOVES his milk!}

 {Oh, there were some animals there... I take a ridiculous amount of pictures of my boys.  Can't help it!}

 {Enjoy that "hotton candy" boys... it's your LAST until next summer!}

 {Playing outside of the new Turtle Reef}

 {That's a baby kangaroo!}

 {Digging for fossils in our favorite secret place at Sea World}

{Sam's a great photographer!}

 {Don't tell anyone about the Garden of Discovery because it's gorgeous, and almost always empty.}

Tomorrow we find out the name of Sam's 1st grade teacher.  He's SO excited!  Although finding out the teacher's name doesn't really matter at this point because we know nothing about any of the teachers, but I was pretty specific on what kind of teacher I think would be best for him.

I specifically requested someone is positive, loving, energetic, who leaves a trail of glitter as she skips around her adorably decorated classroom and who smells like freshly baked cookies, so we'll see :)

With my boys starting later than most {I think they're the ONLY ones in San Diego who haven't started yet... which is great for all of our Zoo and Sea World outings lately} I've had plenty of time to "pin" adorable teacher gifts to make for the 1st Day of School.

I love the pencils on this one...

 but I'm hoping to find some pretty red flowers like this one {or maybe just a red ribbon}.

Simple and so cute {plus they'll double as centerpieces for our Back to School dinner the night before school starts!}

Sam better not have a man for a teacher because so many of my cute gift ideas will go out the window.  Oh wait, I really did specifically request a female teacher, glitter optional :)

I'm linking up here!

How much do you get paid?

Monday, August 15, 2011

Today I washed 3 huge loads of laundry
fed the boys breakfast, lunch, dinner
plus countless snacks and cups of milk
wrapped up a plate of Peanut Butter Cake for hubs work
vacummed the house
cleaned the kitchen
sanded, primed, and painted...
a table
a chair
an old shutter
{plus 10 toes and 2 flip flops}
diaper changes
cuddles, kisses, hugs and tickles
along with a bunch of other things that I don't remember
and that was all before we went to the zoo.

And here is how much I got paid today.
 One squeaky clean baby giraffe
and a shiny penny from the laundry.

But as a Momma,
I'm not counting my riches in dollars and cents
{good thing, right?}

Because I've got all the riches I could need right here.

Today, for the 3rd time in seven days {whoa!}
the boys and I went to the zoo.

And for the first time ever,
we finally had the chance to do something
we've talked about doing for years...
meet Daddy there after he got off of work.

We love living close enough to the zoo
now to be able to do this!

The boys are all about the "cat family" these days,
like the Snow Leopard and the Mountain Lion
{eek!  I am so afraid of them}.

And as much as the animals are fascinating to look at,
I could check out the gorgeous plants
and flowers all evening long.

But instead, we acted silly, cuddled on statues of extinct animals, and channeled our inner Buddy the Elf {because we love Buddy, even in the middle of summer}.

The highlight of the night time zoo for the boys almost every time is this lion, Imbari, whose roar can be heard throughout the zoo and who puts on quite a show every evening.
Sam knows the zoo keeper well {since we're there ALL the time} and could tell you so much about this big guy.

But here are my highlights
from the zoo tonight...

This reindeer.
 Hard to see him in this picture, but when we saw him Sam asked if I thought they should put a cage that went all the way up and around them
 "So the reindeer don't fly away."

This hyena.

Because it reminded me to tell Ben that Jake started talking about China today, except instead of pronouncing it correctly, he insists that it is called Chi-E-na {rhymes with hyena}.  And it is the cutest thing ever to hear him telling us facts about

This shoe.
Because it holds a ridiculously cute chubby little foot of
the most adorable little curly haired boy.

So even though I get paid in pennies and plastic toys,
I am Momma.
And I wouldn't trade my job for anything in the world.

A typical evening at home

Monday, August 8, 2011

I've got to make this post quick because TIVO is calling my name {along with a bowl of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream... yum!} because although I pride myself in being a non-TV watching Momma, I just cannot pull myself away from what is probably THE trashiest shows on TV.  Anything with the word Bachelor in it and I'm parked on the couch watching a train wreck.  So that includes The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad {which premiered tonight... yippeeeeee!}

See... horrible, right?

Anyway, I just wanted to show you what kind of stuff typically happens around Gallamore West.  Is it weird that moments like this are actually quite common in our house?

Hope you all had a fabulous day!  My legs are burning after pushing a double-stroller {I make Jake ride on the platform when we're in crowds so I can keep my eye on the squirmy little cutie pie!} and those hills at the zoo are a workout.  And that my lovely friends is why I get to eat ice cream while watching trash TV.

What's your guilty pleasure TV show?

Clearly, these two have their favorite show too.

Summer days should be just. like. this.

Saturday, July 23, 2011

You know those times when life is just GOOD?
Like really, really good...
so good that you want it to stay
just. like. this.

We've had a few of those crazy good days lately.
Our usual packed calendar is mostly empty these days,
and we LOVE it
just. like. this.

It's not that we aren't busy...
We are busy unpacking those straggling boxes,
figuring out where to hang what and all that fun stuff,
and having so much family fun along the way.

On Thursday I got the boys ready for "shopping at Ikea" which I thought they'd complain about, but they actually really like Ikea so they were excited about it.  But really, Ikea was just a quick stop on a surprise visit to the boys current favorite place in the whole wide world... The World Famous San Diego Zoo.

And seriously, it's "World Famous" for good reason.
We go ALL THE TIME and always find
something new,
something different,
something amazing.
{On this zoo trip, we were loving the tortoises!}

But the boys were having sooo much fun at Ikea,
sitting in EVERY single chair,
touching EVERY single pillow,
feeling EVERY single curtain panel,
laying on EVERY single bed,
and trying on EVERY hamper lid as hats!
{Okay, clearly this picture was taken on a different day...
but seriously, they do THE SAME THING with the hamper lids every time!}

I finally had to tell them that we needed to go a little quicker because there was a "surprise" after Ikea.

It took them just 3 guesses...
A new toy?
An ice cream?  {not the surprise, but we had one anyway}
The Zoo?

And so we were off to the Zoo for the 2nd time this week.  We got there right in time to see a dress rehearsal of the newest show {FINALLY... a new show at the Zoo.  I remember the old one from when I was a kid... seriously, it was practically prehistoric}.

And I KNOW the boys had a fabulous time because I saw this drawing by Sam on their new Ikea easel the next morning.

I really, really hope we have more days this summer that are
