Expressing Feelings with Inside Out!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #InsideOutEmotions #CollectiveBias

Summer is in full swing here at Gallamore West! My blog is slow, my days are busy, and my boys are home with me ALL.DAY.LONG. And I love it... I really do :) My boys and I love the lazy days of summer, but I also like to add in some fun activities for us to do occasionally too. So we made DIY Glitter "Calm Down" Jars, and decorated cookies this week. All with Disney's Inside Out movie in mind.

First, we went to the drive-in movie theatre to see Inside Out. We've so lucky to live about 5 minutes from a great drive-in theatre!

But things aren't all peaches and cream here every day. We definitely deal with our share of arguments, disagreements, differences of opinion, etc. I try to let the boys work out their issues as much as they can without my intervention, but sometimes tempers flare and Mom has to step in. So, taking all of the boys to see Disney's new summer movie, Inside Out, has been a great way for us to talk about expressing our feelings appropriately. Inside Out is all about an 11-year old girl, Riley, working through her emotions after a cross-country move away from all of her friends, her hockey team, and all of her favorite memories.  Her emotions get all out of whack and she spends a lot of time feeling sadness.

After watching the movie, the boys and I talked about how to handle it when they feel sad- that it's okay to feel sad sometimes, that it's normal to feel sad sometimes, how to best express our emotions to others, and how to overcome negative feelings. We even decorated cookies to look like some of our favorite characters from Inside Out.

Here's Sadness...

And Joy... (she must've tasted too good to wait for a picture!)

And Anger.

We also made DIY Glitter "Calm Down" Jars for those times when we really need to take a deep breath, relax, count to ten, and watch the glitter fall down to the bottom of the jar. I'm telling you- that Calm Down Jar has been a wonderful calming thing... for me :)

These DIY Glitter "Calm Down" Jars are so great and easy to make. Just fill your jar with vegetable oil, pour in your favorite color glitter, and seal the jar (you can hot glue it sealed also if you think little hands may try to open it).

I bought a multi-color pack of glitter at Walmart, where I also picked up some fun toys that go along with the Inside Out movie! I bought Joy- one of the main characters and my personal favorite emotion.

And my little guy couldn't resist Bing Bong, who happened to also be a favorite character in the movie. Bing Bong talks too, and says some of his cutest lines from Inside Out.

Have you seen Disney's new movie, Inside Out, yet?

It's an adorable movie, and brings up the importance of discussing our feelings. It was a great way to kick off summer here at Gallamore West, especially because we were able to talk about expressing our feelings AND do some super fun things along with the movie, Inside Out!

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe Made 4 Different Ways!

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Wet-Nap but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #showusyourmess  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Summer is in full-swing here for another month and we love finding creative, fun things to do at home that don't cost a lot of money.  One of our favorite summer fun things to do is make homemade ice cream.  The boys love helping me come up with new ideas of what kind to make, and their favorite part is eating their latest creation, of course!  Today I'm showing you how easy it is to make 4 different ice cream flavors with one basic Vanilla Ice Cream recipe, and how easy cleaning up your kids is with Wet-Nap.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe
3 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 milk
(I use 1% to cut down on the amount of fat, but the higher fat % you use, the thicker your ice cream will be)
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
Mix-ins (whatever you choose!  We used full-size candy bars... Butterfinger, Kit Kat, and Reese's)

Measure out all of your ingredients. Fact: Homemade ice cream tastes better when your ingredients are measured out in your Pyrex & Corelle bowls handed down from your mom.  Add the sugar into the milk and stir until the sugar is dissolved.  Pour the heavy cream, milk/sugar, and vanilla extract into your ice cream maker.

Then just turn it on and let it do its magic (for about 30 minutes or so).  I got this ice cream maker for my birthday last summer and we LOVE it!

While your ice cream is churning, prep your mix-ins.  I chopped up a huge Reese's candy bar, a huge Butterfinger candy bar, and a huge Kit-Kat bar.  All of these were giant sized bars that I bought at Walmart in the candy aisle.  We had never seen candy bars that big, so the boys were excited to try them.

Once the ice cream was creamy and had thickened up enough, I scooped it into four freezer-safe containers that have lids.  Then we added in the candy bars to 3 of 4 containers (we left one plain vanilla for our vanilla loving baby).

After adding in our candy bars, we labeled each container with washi tape and put them in the freezer.  You'll need to freeze them for at least 2 hours.

Once your ice cream has thickened up more in the freezer, take it out and enjoy.  Each of our boys loved picking out their own special flavor.  We always go outside to eat ice cream because these boys are MESSY!

This Wet-Nap container has been my lifesaver this summer because they are so soft that the boys actually love to clean their own hands with them.

Wet-Nap is often located in the napkin aisle at Walmart, but sometimes near the pharmacy also.  They're a great deal at Walmart because of their everyday low prices, but grab your coupon here for an even better deal and pick some up while supplies last to keep on hand to keep your kids hands clean too.  They are so soft, are made with moisturizing aloe, and each wipe is strong enough to clean up even the stickiest of ice cream messes... really, we know all about sticky messes here!

Easy Iced Summer Low Calorie Drinks

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. I am also participating in a contest as an additional aspect of this campaign.

Summer is my favorite!  The boys and I are out and about having all kinds of fun.  Seriously, with all of the fun stuff we did last week, I can't even believe that they have only been on summer break for one week.  If there is one thing that I can already see myself spending too much time and money on though, it is getting fun summer drinks to keep me energized to keep up with our four fun little guys!  Why not save those dollars for something else, and make our own fun drinks at home?  So with my Keurig and so many delicious Brew Over Ice K-cups, that's exactly what I'll be doing from now on!  Here are a couple of fun drinks I came up with for you to enjoy too using the best K-cups flavors...

I decided to put together a quick little "Summer Brewing Station" on our buffet table so that my K-cups, Keurig, plastic mason jars, and cute straws are all ready for me whenever I want a fun drink.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

I love having cute straws out and ready to be used every day, not just for a party.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

And these plastic mason jars I picked up at Walmart while I was getting my Vitamin Burst K-cups are the perfect size for my Brew Over Ice drinks that I brew on either the small size setting (6 oz) or the medium size setting (8 oz) for the best tasting drink- not too sweet, not too watery.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

Fruity summer drinks are so fun and I love getting my daily dose of vitamins in so Keurig K-cups Vitamin Burst drinks are the perfect summer drink for me.  They come in Acai Berry and Strawberry Pomegranate.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

And our boys like being able to have their own cup of freshly brewed lemonade over ice too!

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

I love fresh fruit so I added in fresh strawberries and squeezed in half of a fresh lime to my Strawberry Pomegranate drink.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

And I added in fresh blackberries to my Acai Berry drink.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

Both drinks were fruity, sweet, and refreshing.  I really had a hard time deciding which one is my favorite.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

Next time you're at Walmart, grab yourself some K-Cups.  They're on a special display on an end-cap right now.

#brewoverice #brewitup #collectivebias #shop www.gallamorewest.com

And start your own Brew Over Ice station at home.  You'll save time and money compared to buying fancy drinks at coffee shops or juice bars, and with the Vitamin Burst cups, you'll give yourself a burst of energy to get through those summer fun days with the kiddos home from school!

5 Essential Items for a Fun in the Sun 14-Day Slimdown!

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Slimfast, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #14daystoslim  http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

It's finally summer, my favorite season of the year!  My husband and I are celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary in early July and it's my birthday in July too.  Plus with the boys out of school and pool party invitations piling up on the refrigerator, there are just so many reasons that I love summer.  With all of these fun celebrations coming up, the cameras are sure to be clicking and my attire for the next couple of months will basically consist of sundresses, flip flops, and swim suits.  Yikes, right?!  But I'm not stressing because I have a simple five essential items to keep me on track for a SLIM summer of fun in the sun.

First, how can I not want to slim down for my upcoming birthday when Slimfast has delicious new meal replacement bars that actually look and taste like birthday cake?!

Seriously, these are cute right?!  But more than cute, they satisfy my sweet tooth while curbing my appetite.  And if you replace 2 meals a day for the next 14 days with these new delicious 180 calorie vanilla birthday cake flavored Slimfast meal replacement bars, you could lose up to 6 pounds... in just 2 weeks!  Your third meal should be a 500 calorie meal, plus two 100 calorie snacks per day.  My goal is to lose 5 pounds by my birthday, so this 14 Day Slimdown is the perfect solution for my summer slim-down goals!

Slimming down for summer while eating something that looks like a candy-coated cookie and tastes like vanilla birthday cake?!  SOLD!

Keeping myself hydrated is also key to slimming down this summer.

I aim to drink 100 ounces of water a day.  I know, that's a crazy amount right?  But I feel amazing when I do it, or get close to it.  Plus it helps me stay focused on not eating out of boredom because I just grab my water instead of food.  If 100 ounces is too much, aim for half of your own body weight in ounces of water intake per day.  So just for an example- if you weigh 150 pounds, aim to drink 75 ounces of water a day.  I promise, your body will thank you for it.

My other three essential items are not necessarily about slimming down, but I feel better and want to take the best care of myself that I possibly can when I'm not too tired, rundown, or sunburned so I NEVER leave my house in the summer without my straw hat, my sunglasses, and sunscreen {SPF 2 million, or 75 which is pretty the same}.  After having a scary skin cancer removed 4 years ago, I'm extra careful in the sun so keeping myself protected while slimming down for summer celebrations is essential to me.

Anyone up for doing a 14 Day Slimdown with me?
It's fun, easy, and delicious!

Summer Grilling Recipes #StartYourGrill

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

With summer just around the corner it's time to find some great new items and easy dishes for grilling outside on the gas grill. Grilling is my favorite for summertime dinners because it's so easy, it makes everything extra flavorful, and it doesn't heat up our house. So when my boys and I saw these new Parks Finest Frankfurters from Ball Park at Vons the other day, we bought a couple packages and had a backyard Hot Dog Party by the pool! What caught my eye about Parks Finest Frankfurters by Ball Park is that they're made with beef, they are nitrate free, and they have no preservatives added. All of those things are very important for me when choosing food for my family, plus they come in four great varieties- Signature Seasoned, Slow Smoked Hickory, Cracked Dijon Mustard, and Smokehouse BBQ Seasoned.

So grab your coupon to get Parks Finest Frankfurters by Ball Park from Vons here and #StartYourGrill! You'll find them in the hot dog aisle at Vons.

These aren't just plain old hot dogs. They are full of flavor- enough for adults to appreciate, but not too much that kids turn up their noses either. All four of our boys gobbled them right up!

I love to make dinner fun but still easy during summer so one thing I love to do is take our dinner outside by the pool.

With plenty of toppings, it was fun to see what creations everyone came up with.

There were the ever popular chili dogs, some even topped with corn chips. There was an original dog, topped with ketchup, mustard, relish, and diced onions. And I like to keep things spicy with a cheese and jalapeno dog myself.

I love serving dinner in our little bright colored plastic baskets because they make for quick and easy cleanup. Our boys like them because they think it makes eating at home feel like eating at a restaurant.

Adding a few special touches like our patriotic tablecloth, red star lantern, and serving our sparkling lemonade out of vintage blue mason jars is a super easy way to make dinner seem like a party.

And with Parks Finest Frankfurters by Ball Park on the grill, you'll have a perfect summertime dinner that everyone will love! Don't forget to grab your money saving coupon here and #StartYourGrill! #CollectiveBias

Easy Outdoor Summer Grilling! #SummerGoodies

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

Summer is coming quickly and I can't wait!  To me summer is about celebrating and having fun outside so it's time to start thinking about easy, fun meals that are quick to prepare and don't heat up the house.  With this in mind I did something today that I had never done before, but honestly I will be doing it ALL.SUMMER.LONG.  Guess what I did?  I grilled a pizza.

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

Have you ever grilled a pizza before?

My little ones and I headed to Walmart this morning where we bought a few Jack's Pizzas for our family from the frozen pizza aisle, came home, and fired up our new gas grill.

That's right- you can grill it!

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

We love living in San Diego where it's already been pool weather for over a month, so eating outside by the pool is a regular thing around here.  We love having friends over for casual get togethers, and now that I've tried grilling pizza once, I can honestly say that grilling pizza outside will now be a regular thing around here too.  It took about 10 minutes to cook, it was perfectly browned on the bottom but not at all burned, the cheese was perfectly melted, and best of all it did not heat up our house.

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

After enjoying our pizza, we enjoyed something new and something that I consider a perfect match made in heaven... the combination of peanut butter and chocolate in Peanut Butter Drumsticks!

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

Yes, they're new and if you love peanut butter and chocolate as much as I do, then you're going to fall in love.

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

We picked them up at Walmart this morning too.  They were on an end cap freezer right next to the main freezer aisle with ice cream.

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias
Really, is there anything better than enjoying a Peanut Butter Drumstick on a hot summer afternoon?
www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

If there is, don't tell this cute boy.  This is the life!

Looking for Jack's Pizza for your own Pizza Grilling Party?  You can find it in the freezer section in the pizza aisle at Walmart.

www.gallamorewest.com #summergoodies #collectivebias

And if you're looking for my boys and I this summer, you'll find us hanging out, grilling up a Pizza Party and enjoying Peanut Butter Drumsticks poolside. xoxo
