Teaching Kids Gratitude with a Thankful Tree

Whoooo is thankful?  We are!  And I'm excited to show you a fun way that we're helping our boys reach out and show their appreciation to others during this month of Thanksgiving.  That's right, it's not just one day.  We can give extra to show that we're thankful all month long.

The little guys helped me make this Whooo is Thankful Tree over the weekend and we're SO excited to start showing people around us how thankful we are for them.   Our plan is to think of people who help our lives everyday who probably don't always get a lot of appreciation.  For example, we LOVE our teachers and regularly bring them little goodies but we have really never told the janitor at the school how much we appreciate him.  This month we will reach out to him, along with our mail carrier, our trash collectors (by the way, one of them we actually do know and bake goodies for regularly, so this month we'll be sure to include our recycle collector too).   We'll either bake them something special or give them one of these cute packages of Extra gum with a tag attached that says "We are EXTRA THANKFUL for you!"

Cute and simple, but I know I would feel extra special if someone unexpected thought to think of me. Whoooo are you thankful for?

And to keep the boys excited about it all month long, I attached a stick of Extra gum to each leaf on the tree.  Each time they go the EXTRA mile to show their appreciation to somebody, they get to take a leaf off of the tree and enjoy the gum.

The tree was super easy to make- a foam poster board, foam leaves from the craft store, plus cute tape (like washi tape but wider), twine, and gum...

Our little guys loved helping me sort the foam leaves...

Yes, Luke Skywalker does live at our house, and he is a great leaf sorting helper :)

I just cut a tree shape using kraft card stock paper and glued it on the poster board, then lined the border with decorative tape.  I taped a stick of Extra gum (hello, the new Mixed Berry flavor is sooo good) onto the back of each foam leaf.

Then I just attached all of the leaves to the tree using twine and some double sided tape.

By the end of November, our goal is to have no leaves left on our tree!  It's going to be an EXTRA fun month of showing our appreciation to others here at Gallamore West.

What a fun idea! It's so important to always thank the people in our lives who go the "extra" mile...and I love how you are teaching your kids to do the same. Thanks for sharing! #client
