Glittered Book Advent Station! #glitteratmichaels

I received Recollections Glitter from Michaels as part of this paid post.  All opinions are mine.

December can get SO crazy busy with all of the fun things going on.  In the past, I've sometimes gotten caught up in wanting to do it all, but this year we are focusing on slowing down and taking in the magic of the season without so much of the hustle and bustle.  One way we're doing this is by ditching our usual advent calendar {that involved "getting something" or "doing something" every night during December} and we're doing a Book Advent Station instead.  We are LOVING this because instead of running around, it is getting us gathered together as a family and reading together every night during December.  And just to make it more fun, I glittered up our little Book Advent Station with Recollections Glitter from Michaels because everything is more fun with glitter!

First of all, thank you SNAP Conference and Recollections Glitter at Michael's for this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G supply of glitter.  I literally squealed with delight when I opened the package from my doorstep.  I am in love with Recollections Glitter from Michaels!

 I gathered up my supplies:

Recollections Glitter from Michaels
{it comes in sooo many amazing colors and different textures- extra fine, chunky, and tinsel}
Mod Podge
white cardstock tags I cut with my Silhouette
number stencils made with my Silhouette
Sponge brush
Double sided tape
{to tape on the middle paper for numbers like 4, 6, 8, and 9 so the middle didn't get filled with glitter}

I made numbered tags, 1-25, so that we can unwrap and read one of our Christmas books every night from December 1st- December 25th.  I just placed the number stencil on a tag, gave it a little coat of Mod Podge, then sprinkled on the glitter like this, then shaking off the excess glitter.

After finishing all 25 tags, I glittered up some old ball ornaments that we aren't using for our tree.

Since we have four little ones, our tree is pretty much covered in paper snowflakes, a clay fish ornament, a Christmas snake {what?!} and other such beautiful creations made by our boys for the next 20 years or so!

As you can see, I had an adorable little helper for that part of this fun project!  I hung the glittered ornaments with twine onto the sides of our little chalkboard easel.

For a finishing touch, I added a glittered READ banner using my very favorite of the Recollections Glitter from Michaels, the gold tinsel glitter.

It is so glittery that it almost has a fuzzy glittery look to it.   I'm totally digging the READ sign... it's the Elementary School Teacher in me coming out there.

 I made the letters for the READ sign by tracing letters onto the back of a cardboard box from Christmas cookies.

Then I gathered up 25 of our favorite Christmas books from our huge collection...

And I wrapped them up and tied on a glittery tag to mark the date that we'll unwrap each book to read.

Most of them I just wrapped without paying attention to which book went with which date, but I did pay attention to a few special ones that I want to do an activity, special dinner, or family movie to go along with our story for that night {like eat tamales on the night we read Too Many Tamales, watch Polar Express on the night we read that book, and read Twas the Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve of course!}

And on Christmas Day, this book is filled with Christmas songs because we all know that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear, right?!

Recollections Glitter from Michael's is amazing!  It is much different from your average glitter because the textures {extra fine, chunky, and tinsel} are fabulous.  The color selection is amazing, and the colors themselves are so bright and fun.  They come in sets or individually starting at just $3.99, are perfect for so many crafts, and are available only at Michaels.

Pretty much the only thing missing from our Glittered Book Advent Station is a Hot Chocolate Station right next to it, right?  But don't worry, I'm already working on that!

So, what are you going to glitter up this holiday season? xoxo
