Painted Thrifted Table with Personalized Chairs using DecoArt Stencils

I'm SO excited to finally be showing you this project!

One day my parents were on their way to my house and drove past my favorite little thrift store {my Vintage Treasure Hunting post has more of my favorite items from there} and told me about a table and chairs just like I'd been searching for, but couldn't find for a good enough bargain on Craigslist.  This table w/4 chairs came home with me that day for $60!  Even though the table was well loved and weathered from sitting out in the sun a bit, I was thrilled because it had great legs and was exactly what I had been searching for.

Excuse the poor quality of this Instagram picture, taken in our garage when I started a late night painting session! You can check out my Instagram here :)

I used this recipe for DIY ChalkY Paint from In My Own Style using plaster of paris {not to be confused with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint}.  I love the texture it gives the table- so rich and smooth.  And check out those legs!

I originally thought I'd paint the table yellow, but at the last minute decided to go with white {Picket Fence by Martha Stewart}.  But I didn't want the chairs white too, so I choose this gorgeous light grey {Driftwood Grey by Martha Stewart} and just mixed in a tiny bit of DecoArt's Americana Black Acrylic Paint to get a deep charcoal grey for the stenciled numbers.  I used DecoArt's Americana 5" number stencils for the chairs.

 I LOVE the randomness of the numbers on the chairs!  We have 4 boys, but I really didn't want the chairs numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4 because I don't really want our boys labeled by their birth order all the time so I let them choose their own numbers.

Sam choose 11 because 1 is his favorite number, so he said 2 ones are even better.

Jake chose 5 because 5 was a great age for him.

We rattled off a bunch of numbers for Luke and he picked 4.

And my favorite is Bryce's chair.  He's a little guy so he's just starting to talk a little so he doesn't know his numbers yet.  So we asked him to clap and we counted 9 claps.  Isn't that cute?  I love personalizing things in our house so that they tell a story.  Years from now I can imagine a teenage Bryce sitting in that same chair and remembering him as a baby clapping nine times {ahhh, tears just thinking of my boys growing up!}

The boys LOVE having their own special number on their chairs now.

We're thrilled with our "new to us" table and chairs.  It was my first DIY Chalky Paint project and it definitely won't be my last.  I have a long list of projects going in the garage, as always! :)

I'm sharing our Painted Thrifted Table and Personalized Chairs at Tatertots & Jello.
