Despicable Me 2 at the Drive-In!

Have you seen Despicable Me 2 yet?

We all loved Despicable Me here and find ourselves constantly quoting lines from the movie... "It's so FLUFFY!"

So naturally, we were thrilled when we found out that Despicable Me 2 was in the works.  And for us, with four little boys {2 of them really little and not quite ready for the real movie theatre} we couldn't wait to go see it at the Drive-In!  Do you have a Drive-In theater near you?  I read recently that there are only 400 left in the whole county {there used to be 4000} so I think we're pretty lucky to have one of them less than 10 minutes from our house.

Since you can bring in your own food to the Drive-In, we brought in some special treats for the show.  Of course, I HAD to go and make it all "despicable" :)

After seeing the cutest minion cupcakes at a birthday party we went to recently, Minion cupcakes were at the top of my list.

The boys were mostly excited because I have NEVER bought Twinkies {nope, not even once} and even though these were really Little Debbie Cloud Cakes, they were equally thrilled for the rare sugar rush.

The boys even decided to make their own Evil Purple Minion cupcake...
nailed it!

I bought a roll of Despicable Me Duct Tape to wrap the water bottles and juice boxes...

and I used these free printables from Tonya Staab to make minion push pops that I filled with Trader Joe's Salt Water Taffy.  These were a hit and super easy to put together.

I surprised each of the boys with a bag filled with themed food from the first movie:  Cookie Robots, Coconutties, and Cheeto Puffs with a tag attached that said, "Aw, my caterpillar never turned into a butterfly."   Remember that line from the 1st movie?  So funny!

They even had their name on their juice box,

but luckily they didn't get a hole poked through theirs like Edith did on the 1st movie.

And for dinner, can you guess what we had?  Pizza of course... ohhhh, stuffed crust.
"I'll stuff you all in the crust!"

It was so much fun!  Where else can do you get dressed in your pajamas, bring your favorite blanket and stuffed animal and go hang out as a family?

With so many fun kid movies coming out this summer I'm already planning our next trip to the Drive-In. Grab your minions and head to the movies!

Happy Memory Making! xoxo

Thanks for sharing -- I totally want to have those push pops out at EVERY party now!! :D Don't you? :) All your snacks were super creative -- looks like a fun movie night! :)

I just wanted to let you know that a few weeks ago, after I'd read this post, I looked up the drive in that I knew used to be about an hour away. It was still in business! My husband then made plans that Friday and attended the double feature! They were showing DM2 and The Lone Ranger. We ate dinner from the snack bar (best corn dogs ever!) and had a blast just being at such an iconic place, that has been run by the same family since 1954! We stayed at a Holiday Inn nearby and it was so nice to have some time out alone! Thank you so much for the idea! I'm hoping to take the grandkids to the drive in very soon and making DM2 cup cakes! Hugs Leena

These cupcakes rock! I love the minions, they are so cute and there's the fact that twinkies and all of the other great Hostess goodies made their comeback recently. I would love if you would share this at the Krafty Inspiration Thursday Party over at Krafty Cards etc.
Have a great weekend!
