Happy Birthday Jen Lemon Bars!!

Sometimes life with 4 busy little boys gets in the way of blogging, and this time life has completely swamped me with stuff {mostly good stuff!} so I’ve sadly been away from my blog for a while.

But there is NO way I’d miss this very special birthday party for Jen of Four Marrs and One Venus!

If you know Jen, then you know all about her wild and crazy dancing videos, her amazing DIY projects, and her always cheery, always positive outlook at her blog, Four Marrs and One Venus.  If you don’t, well you should hop over there today, wish her a Happy Birthday, and see what I’m talking about.  I guarantee, you will LOVE her the very first time you meet her… just like I did!

Unlike the majority of my blogging friends that I adore but haven’t yet had the pleasure to meet, I actually know Jen in real life!  We met playing Bunco at a mutual friend’s house a few years ago- back when we were both just dipping our toes in this whole blogging adventure.  She was SO fun and funny and I will never forget that when I went to leave that night at Bunco she ran up to me and said, “I want to give you a hug!  I really like you!”  Honestly, she is JUST LIKE THAT in real life.  She is friendly and positive and adorable and REAL.  And wow, it is so refreshing to meet someone like that, right?!

Soooo, today’s Jen’s birthday and I’m thrilled to be part of this big birthday celebration where some of Jen’s friends from around Blog Land are all teaming up to surprise her on her birthday!  The mastermind behind this fabulous plan was Julie at White Lights on Wednesday… yay, Julie!  And since Jen is always so bright and cheery, I wanted to make something that reminds me of sweet, happy times so I baked up a batch of lemon bars in Jen’s honor.  Until a couple of years ago, I thought lemon bars ONLY came from a box, so to make them from scratch really just about blows my mind every time 🙂

I fancied them up, since they are for a birthday after all, with washi tape & paper straw mini flags.  I definitely jumped up the whole “washi tape bandwagon” a little late, but now that I’m on it I don’t ever want to get off. I am addicted to using washi tape for just about everything because it’s so fun, easy to use, and easy to move if you mess up {I need more crafting supplies like that in my life these days!}

Instead of boring old squares, I decided to use a flower shaped cookie cutter to make lemon flowers, because they are for Jen after all and boring, old, and square are definitely NOT words to describe her!

My little two-year old Luke really got into celebrating Jen’s birthday and tried to “blow out the candles” which got me thinking that these little washi tape/straw flags are the PERFECT thing to use on top of a little one’s birthday cake instead of a flame!

Happy Birthday, Jen!  You truly are one of a kind.  I am so happy to be blessed to know you, and to be a part of your birthday celebration.  Cheers to your best year yet! xoxo
