One Little Word for 2013: JOY

Happy 2013!!

I'm back from my planned blogging break and so ready for a new year!  Every year I choose one little word that I focus on that year.  Whenever I'm having a hard time focusing, or when I'm struggling, all I have to do is think on my word and it always helps bring me back to a happy place.

In 2012, it was balance.
The year before it was simplify
For 2013, my one little word is JOY

I want to find joy in the ordinary moments of life, and I will strive to find joy in my struggles.  For the past few years,  I haven't really quite felt like myself.  I think it's just that so much has changed, and although most of it involves good changes, it's been quite an adjustment.  We've added two little babies to our family just under 19 months apart, we moved, the boys started new schools, the job situation for my husband has been a very bumpy ride, my sweet Grandpa passed away very quickly last year, I had a health scare, and I miss my girlfriends.

I am fortunate enough to have really good girlfriends- wonderful, treasured, lifelong friends.  But one moved away, then I moved away, one remains in the city we moved from, and one had moved away years ago.  So, I find myself in a weird spot where I'm feeling the need to reach out to make a new friendship or two.  And honestly, I kind of feel like the new kid on the playground, which for a creature of comfort like myself, is a hard spot to be.  But I'm looking forward to keeping the wonderful friendships I already have, while reaching out and making some new girlfriends too.

But despite anything that life throws my way, I have a choice on how to respond.  And I am choosing JOY.

I'm thrilled to be back to blogging after my planned blogging break where I thoroughly enjoyed the holiday break with our four little boys.  I'm looking forward to sharing my updated craft area with you No really, I know I said that before but as soon as I clear off this pile of bills sitting here, I'll take pictures and share it's cuteness with you... I LOVE it, minus the pile of bills of course.  I'm also looking forward to sharing how I {appear to} keep on top of everything, how the cleaning fairies come to our house at night {it's awesome}, some new recipes, and some DIY fun with you.  And of course, VALENTINE'S DAY!  One of my favorite days of the year is coming up quickly and I can't wait to share how we're celebrating it this year.

Here's what I did for Valentine's Day last year:

What about you?
Do you choose One Little Word each year?
What's your word for 2013?

I'll be posting pics on Instagram with the hashtag #gallamorewestjoy and I'd love to have you follow me there too!

xoxo,

Happy New Year to you!

Picking a word for the year, what a great idea! I would have to pick something like breath to help me get through this year.

Seriously, get out of my head lol! I was "simplify" in 2010, then "organize" last year, and now this year I still haven't settled on a word, but I was leaning towards "joy" as well.

I'm right there with you on feeling a bit out of sorts and displaced these days. Life with crazy little boys can do that to you! My friends have moved (or I have), and I'm feeling a bit lonely and new-kid-on-the-block too. That's why I'm teetering between "joy" and something else that means suck it up, be brave and just put yourself out there ;) xoxo

My word(s) is All In. I realized my relationships and my life were very inconsistent. Especially my relationship with God. So I'm all on this year. And I totally feel ya on the new kid on the playground thing. A lot changed for us too in the last 18 months. Hubs was critically wounded in Afghanistan, helped him through his recovery & began his med-board to leave the Army, learned I am the one (not him) who has symptoms of ptsd (mild though thank you Jesus), moved back "home" leaving a town & friends we loved and started an entirely new chapter in our marriage & our family with his retirement. Its been insane! A roller coaster to say the least. I think Joy is one of the best words anyone can choose for the new year cause who doesn't need some more Joy in their life?! :-) wishing you all the best in 2013 & can't wait to see the new craft area!

I LOVE your word JOY!! That is great!! I think it is a word, that when you hear, it makes you smile, no matter what.

I miss my sweetest, closest friend, it was so good to get to see you and all the boys. We need to do it again soon.

Not sure what word to choose, I haven't done that before. I will think about it and get back to you. :)

Sending you hugs Laur! I hope your year IS filled with JOY! If I was near you, I'd totally be your real life friend! That is something I have not managed to cultivate for myself. Wish I had....small town, married young, started my home and family...sort of skipped past the other stuff. I'm doing One Little Word for the first time this year, and my year is Build. I'm watchin' you on IG : )

Love it!! Joy was my word last year and this year I think it's going to be: CHANGE. I feel a lot of change coming on - in a good way! :) And I am ready to embrace it. (This comes from a creature of comfort too!) xoxo And you know you always have Melissa and I when you need more girl time! We're already overdue! ;-) xoxo Happy New Year to you guys!
