Mama Guilt and a look back at St. Patrick's Day '11

Ohhh, the guilt...

the guilt I feel as a Mama when I feel like I'm not doing enough...
enough laundry, enough fun stuff, enough cuddling, enough cleaning, enough vegetables at the dinner table...

the guilt I feel as a Blogger when I run out of fun stuff to talk about, or like recently, when I've been overwhelmed with life and haven't wanted to be Debbie Downer {this is supposed to be a FUN blog after all, right?} or feeling like it's all about growing numbers for some bloggers and letting them pass me by because I crave a REAL connection with the bloggers that I follow, and hopefully with those that choose to follow me too...

the guilt I feel as a wife when all I want to do is curl up with my pillow and go to bed early...

It's all normal, right?
My word for 2012 is BALANCE.
And yet sometimes that is the hardest thing
in the world to maintain.

I definitely haven't figured out a way to balance it all, but I have figured out one part of it all- life is flying by and I won't remember all the time spent on Facebook, Pinterest, blogs, email, catching up on TV shows, etc...  I could spend a million hours doing mindless things that will all blend into the past,

but
spending real quality time curled up with a good book,
or in the company of a true friend,
or tickling my boys and hearing their genuine laughter,
or watching a magic show performed by our kids in the family room,
or peeking in my baby boy's room while he's napping and just marveling at his beauty
or even something as simple as slowing down and saying yes when my 4 year old wants to crack the eggs for the cookies we're baking...

THOSE are the things that I treasure.

And these three boys are my Lucky Charms.

Here's a look back at St. Patrick's Day with the boys last year... I have all kinds of fun planned for them this year!  Check out my "at the end of the rainbow" board on Pinterest for some great ideas- there are SO many talented people with amazing ideas out there!

I'm off to make some memories with my boys now :)
xoxo,
Laurie

Oh I can SO relate to this! As a mama of four (which you're soon to be!) I go to bed almost every night replaying the day and wondering "Did I truly listen when Sam was showing me his Lego creation" "Did I have any one-on-one moments with Noah when he got home from school today" "Did I make enough time to do baby learning things...roll the ball and peek-a-boo with Hannah" "Did I read the book to Luke that I promised him I would?" Oh the mommy guilt!

It is SO tough to find balance (that was my word for 2012 too! Well, balance AND simplify since I'm indecisive haha), especially as a mama and a blogger. I tend to hibernate and go MIA when I'm feeling less than inspired, but someone reminded me the other day that people who read your blog like you to be YOU. It's okay to post things that aren't always rainbows and sunshine, you know? Or not at all if you're not feeling it! Spend time focusing on those sweet little faces, and everything else will fall into place :)

Oh my gosh. I JUST posted about this same topic, and then I saw your new post. Sounds like we are on the same wavelength lately. So nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way sometimes!

And you do SUCH a good job making memories with your family...you are definitely my hero in that respect. Take time to enjoy that houseful of boys - they deserve it, and YOU do too!!

My thoughts exactly! Here lately, I have really had to let go of the pressure to blog and be online all the time, and it has brought such freedom for me. Glad to know other bloggers share the same sentiments. Well said.

I feel the same way. Lately I have had trouble managing my time. It gets hard sometimes. But it's nice knowing I' not the only one.

Btw, You've been tagged. :)

...couldn't agree more! My word for 2012 is 'perspective.' When I keep my life in perspective, it is clear what really matters. Before all else, I want to play outside with my son, enjoy evenings at home with my hubby, take long walks, read stories and so much more. My blog...well, it just has to wait until I have time for it. :-) The fact that you wrote this post means that you've got it right...sometimes I think we just get all wrapped up in the less important. I can tell you're a fabulous momma with four boys that love you VERY much!
XOXO

Your boys are so cute! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog...we all love those! It's been fun poking around your blog. I love that we're both Cali girls and I really like the "where I party" tab with a list of links. I'm always struggling with how to find more parties and when to link up...so thank you! I'm your newest follower as well :)
